I met Elsie the day before a mountain biking race. No, I was not racing, but I was supporting a few people that were. Since, I had only been biking for a month, it would be CRAZY for me to race, at least that is what I thought.
Elsie, had/has a great body, lots of energy and seemed to have her life in order. I’m ashamed to admit it, I was a bit jealous, but after talking to her a bit, I realized that she made me want to be better.
Here is Elsie’s story:
While sitting on her balcony one day, drinking red wine, smoking and chatting with her neighbors, she had an epiphany. She decided she was tired of being unhealthy and wanted to change her life. Being an extreme girl, she made the decision to become a triathlete.
(I’ve met a few triathlete, and they have all been in Excellent shape. They have to swim, run, and road bike, well, and have more endurance than a guy on Viagra)
Since Elsie is an all or nothing type of girl she found a swim coach, a running coach, and a biking coach to help her get in shape. She didn’t just want to be a triathlete, she wanted to win triathlons. The very next day she started her training, gave up her red wine and her cigarettes. That was in September 2008.
She has been in two races (3 including the Mountain biking race) this year and plans on doing 27 more before the year is out.
Elsie inspired me (Gave me a harsh reality check), that with A LOT of work, huge things are possible. I have no plans to be as intense as she is, but she inspires me to do much MORE than what I’m doing now. To push myself, so next year, I can do that mountain biking race. Hell, if she can do it after 8 months, then I can do it in a year.
As for the mountain biking race, Elsie ended up being 3rd in the woman’s division. Did I mention she had only Mountain Biked 3 times before that race?
